Evening talk: “Journal d’une vie” - le journal de Mathurin Monier

The talk, entitled “Journal d’une vie” - le journal de Mathurin Monier, will focus on the newly published diaries of Diane Moore’s grandfather, French historian Mathurin Monier (1901-1974) whose major historical works were discussed at last year’s “causerie” at the Société Jersiaise. In these hitherto unpublished diaries Monier charts his own life starting in 1939 and covers the Occupation in Paris, to the Liberation by American troops, his return to native Brittany and his work as Regional Curator for the Ministry of Culture. The topics he discusses range from politics (mai 68), religion, philosophy, childhood memories, love and regret, not to mention a highly informative array of historical facts about places of interest within the département des Côtes-du-Nord (now Côtes d’Armor).

Diane Moore’s talk will be illustrated by over 70 images, and she will have copies of the new (hardback) book for sale at the promotional price of £20. Details of the book can be found on the website www.editionsplessix.com. The actual book launch will take place in Dinan on October 12th, so this will be an exclusive airing of the book in Jersey waters, and the promotion will be valid until the end of this month.

A talk given by Diane Moore, in partnership with the Section Française of the Société Jersiaise.

On Wednesday 22nd October at 7.00pm.
