“Les tontons flingueurs” from Georges Lautner (1963) is another classic French comedy not to be missed. After the success of last month showing of “Le magnifique” and the one of “Ne nous fachons pas” in January (from the same director and actors), we wanted to keep going in this vein.
French gangsters in their least serious, crazy situations and out there parody. This movie inspired numerous imitations but only the subsequent ones made by the same team were successful. (find a proper summary in the event page).
For the pleasure of your ears and the wit of your mind, enjoy these magnificent, convoluted, poetic, surrealistic and laugh out loud funny dialogues by the unequalled master of the genre, Michel Audiard. Cherry on the cake, the subtitles on our copy are as best as can be hoped for with such dialogues.
The group of actors is truly superb, all proper legends in their own right, with unmistakable faces and body expressions. Add to this a genius in line deliveries, but also working extremely well as a group of “friends and foes” and you have an ideal cast which made this movie the all time classic that is now.
But let’s not forget George Lautner’s solid direction and his unforgettable cinema tricks of image and sound editing which combined to the dialogues are now integral part of the modern French culture.
Do not this opportunity to get a real taste of popular French culture whom pretty much everybody has seen or will see one day or another in the country.
