For this second instalment, we chose a recent publicly and critically acclaimed comedy by one the most prominent female actor/director of the moment: “Camille redouble” (Camille Rewinds) by Noémie Lvovsky (2012).

Homage to, as well as, French remake of Francis Ford Coppola’s classic from 1986 “Peggy Sue got married”, Camille redouble is an existentialist comedy drama deeper than its premises can let you guess.

Reliving your past with your adult mind is surely a universal fantasy and the movie uses that fact as an integral part of its script. This is exactly what happens to the Camille of the title that is being sent back in time as the 40 year old adult she is to re-experience her years as a 16 year old teenager in 1985.

It is a very funny but also touching time travel comedy that doesn’t shy away from the drama of the teenage and later years offering a bitter-sweet take on this situation. It exploits the current commercial nostalgia for the 80’s in an intelligent and witty way.

Noemie Lvovsky directs and plays the main character with great talent, no narcissism and a touch of madness that makes the film very refreshing. Do not miss this chance to discover a proper French popular success that has substance which has been all too rare for the past few years.

As usual now, Stefan Rousseau will introduce the film, its cinematographic and literary references from 6 around a glass of wine and nibbles. The movie is 115 mins long and we encourage to plan a bit of time after 8 pm to discuss on it.

Please, note that a small participation will be asked (£3 for AF members/£4 for non-members) as we will provide snacks and wine before and after the film.
