Spring is with us and to celebrate the triumphant return to life worldwide, we chose a great French comedy classic.
Le magnifique (1973) is the quintessential French spy spoof but not just that. It is also a bitter-sweet reflection on the act of writing, a love story as well as a completely delirious comedy of the highest caliber.
The movie constantly intertwines these three elements with an astonishing sense of rythm and visual rhyme between reality and fantasy. Philippe de Broca is at its best, popular but digging deeper than most of his colleagues always mixing fast paced adventure with a second degree point of view.
If you like James Bond and all his caricatures that were created for the cinema you will love this movie. It follows both François Merlin the writer and its fictional creation, the super spy Bob Sinclar for your total entertainment on all levels.
Jean Paul Belmondo is on fire being both the “magnifique”’ of the title as well as the pathetic, playing both sides with the same zing. The beautiful English/French actress Jacqueline Bisset is up to the task as the always sexy and intelligent Belmondo’s counterpart in both “worlds”.
Do not miss this occasion to be widly entertained, to laugh out loud, to be touched emetionally and intellectually challenged all at the same time. And all this in a splendidly remastered brand new transfer to feast your eyes upon !
Please, note that a small participation will be asked (£3 for AF members/£4 for non-members) as we will provide snacks and wine before and after the film.
