For this second film, we decided to go for a now classic masterpiece of historical cinema directed by a master filmmaker/theater director, Patrice Chéreau with Isabelle Adjani, Daniel Auteuil and Vincent Perez.
The night of August 24, 1572, is known as the Massacre of St. Bartholomew. In France a religious war is raging. In order to impose peace a forced wedding is arranged between Margot de Valois, sister of the immature Catholic King Charles IX, and the Huguenot King Henri of Navarre. Catherine of Medici maintains her behind-the-scenes power by ordering assaults, poisonings, and instigations to incest.
Expect a fascinating work, going against all “clichés” of the classic historical film and which integrates the genius of Patrice Chéreau for thetrical production in a cinematic superproduction context. From the sets to the music, through the costumes and the actors , you will be amazed by an extraordinary show, as intense and tumultuous as the trouble period of French history it adresses.
