The Alliance Française de Jersey, in association with the Institut Français and the Jersey Eisteddfod Festival, is organising the 7th edition of the French Film Festival. On Tuesday 21st November, come to Jersey Arts Centre at 8pm to watch “Chocolat” in French with English subtitles !

Chocolat recounts the story of Rafael Padilla, the first black circus performer. At the end of the 19th century, Rafael Padilla and Footit constitute a famous comical duo, with a white authoritarian clown and a black whipping boy clown. Rafael becomes Chocolat, and the duo, in vogue, is appointed by Joseph Oller in the famous « Nouveau Cirque ». Chocolat, who was accepting knocks when Footit struck him, is more and more opposed to discriminations he suffers from. Celebrity, money, lure of profit defeat the friendship between the both clowns, and Chocolat’s career. Omar Sy plays the role of Chocolat, and James Thierrée the role of Footit.

CHOCOLAT 2016, France. Director: Roschdy Zem. 119 min. With Omar Sy, James Thierrée.
