As the Saint Valentin (Valentine’s Day) is around the corner, for this month’s Cine-Club we selected an excellent romantic comedy with the two main French stars of the genre , Audrey Tautou (Amelie) and Romain Duris (Heartbreaker). Its director, Cedric Klapisch, started his series of feelgood movies with L’Auberge Espagnole (Pot Luck, 2002), Les Poupées Russes (Russian Dolls, 2005). After looking at his ensemble cast as young adults, then as 30 years old, he now adresses their love puzzles as 40 years old. Rest assured that if these movies are great as a series but they are also work perfectly as stand alone movies.

At forty you are supposed to be more mature and live a steadier life than at twenty. But not Xavier (Duris). To be totally honest it is not entirely Xavier’s fault if his wife Wendy (Kelly Reilly) has suddenly left him for a new companion in New York and taken their two children with her. Realizing he can’t stand living without them, Xavier decides to settle down in Big Apple as well. He finds a home in Chinatown and it does not take long before trouble comes his way.

As you all know that love and the art of love is at the heart of French culture (after all we are deemed as French lovers, aren’t we ?) you’ll be well advised to join us on that evening to revise your do’s and don’ts while enjoying our cheese and wine selection.

As usual the entry fee is £4 for AF members and £6 for non-members and is inclusive of a French buffet (White and Red French wines, cheeses, cured meats, olives and of course baguette). You can join us from 5.40 to enjoy a bit to eat before the movie starts at 6pm.
