After a series of excellent comedies and romantic comedies, we wanted to show that France can also produce excellent crime movies/thrillers.

La French is particularly interesting as it offers the other side of the coin of the story told by the world famous masterpiece The French Connection by William Friedking (1971). It is directly inspired by the real events that unfolded in Marseille which became one of the world’s major cities for drug trafficking. For those interested in French accents, you will revel in the south style Marseille accent of the characters. The 70’s reconstitution is also carefully done and the 2nd biggest French city is accurately presented, beautiful and vibrant but also highly dodgy and dangerous .

A French police magistrate (Jean Dujardin) spends years trying to take down one of the country’s most powerful drug rings and its “godfather” (Gilles Lelouche). Both actors are very involved in their roles in top form for their intense confrontation. Expect a direction inspired by the great american gangster movies of Martin Scorcese, remixed by a South of France sensibility forming a very interesting mix, sometimes quite violent though.

As usual join us from 5.45 to enjoy our French buffet and wines before the movie starts.
